Find yourself again
Self-concept reorganisation is a process which involves rebuilding and strengthening the sense of who you are, independent of the relationship.
Relationships have a profound impact on the beliefs we hold about ourselves. Intimacy involves feelings of emotional closeness and connectedness with another person. It is about opening up and revealing yourself to another person, opening up to their love, wants, needs, feelings, opinions, love, goals and dreams. Sometimes that involves adjusting your sails.
Part of the healing is re-evaluating your goals and re-establishing your identity without your partner. Relationships provide opportunities to grow with your partner and independently. Anything that contributes to repairing and increasing self-esteem will accelerate healing.
Journaling allows you to capture and define your thoughts and feelings and to understand them more clearly. Another way to move towards healing is to write repeatedly about the breakup as though speaking with a stranger.
Reclaiming a strong self-concept is about establishing who you are outside of the relationship. Focus on finding those parts of yourself that have been pushed aside during the relationship. Create ways to build and nurture them.
It can take a while to redirect your ship back to your true self. Going through a breakup and experiencing emotional pain can affect the physical body.
Above all else, remember that you always were and always will be whole and complete. There are things about you that were beautiful, strong, vibrant and extraordinary before the relationship. Nothing has changed.
Good friends prevent isolation and loneliness, increase your sense of belonging and purpose, boost your happiness and reduce stress, improve your self-confidence and self-worth, help you cope with traumas, and encourage you to change or avoid unhealthy lifestyle habits.
